Playing for its first-ever league crown didn't work out so well for Colorado College.
CC, which battled their way into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship match with a gutsy 5-4 semifinal victory over Southwestern University on Saturday morning, had little left in the tank while falling to host Trinity University, 9-0, in San Antonio, Texas.
The Tigers, who had not faced perennial powerhouse TU at all previously this season, dropped their three doubles matches by a score of 8-2 on Saturday night before losing all six singles pairings in straight sets on Sunday morning. Only senior
Will Lindsay, the team's No. 1 player, won more than one game in a set while falling 6-0, 6-2.
"We are very proud of how the guys pulled through against Southwestern to reach the conference finals for the first time in program history," said head coach Todd Doebler. "They really improved throughout the year and learned a lot about what it takes to grow as players. Will and Zach (White) did great jobs as senior captains, and they will be missed."
Colorado College finished the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 8-8.
Trinity, meanwhile, improved to 18-9 while earning the SCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
