Weekly Release No. 7 >Colorado College plays the first of four consecutive Mountain West road games this week when the Tigers visit San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico.
Â
CC squares off with the Aztecs at 7 p.m. PT Friday at the Sports Deck, which sits atop a two-story parking structure. On Sunday, the Tigers visit UNM for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Lobo Soccer Complex in Albuquerque.
Â
Colorado College  improved to 5-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the MW with a 1-1 tie against Utah State and a 3-1 victory over Boise State last week at Stewart Field. The Tigers, who are unbeaten in their last 20 home games (17-0-3), will be searching for their first triumphs on the road where they are currently 0-2-1.
Â
San Diego State, which is tied for first place in the Mountain West, is 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference after defeating San Jose State (1-0) and Fresno State (4-2) on the road last week. New Mexico will take a 3-3-1 overall mark and a 1-0-1 record into Friday's home game against Air Force. The Aztecs defeated Fresno State (2-1) and tied San Jose State (1-1) last week.  Â
Â
Friday night's match against SDSU pits a pair of 2013 conference champions. Colorado College won the 2013 Conference USA regular-season and postseason championships, while San Diego State accomplished the same feat in the MW.
Â
Not surprisingly, the teams were predicted to finish first and second in the Mountain West preseason poll. The Aztecs were first on the ballot of the MW's head coaches, edging CC by a 115-112 margin. Both teams received five first-place votes. Boise State, the top selection on two ballots, was third with 102 points. New Mexico (88) and Utah State (82) rounded out the top five.
Â
Thanks in part to its eight seasons as an affiliate member of Conference USA, the Tigers will play in The Golden State for the first time since 2007 on Friday night at San Diego State. The last time a Colorado College squad competed in Southern California was in 1999 when CC played at Loyola Marymount University on Sept. 26. That trip began with a stop at the University of San Diego on Sept. 24.
Â
Head Coach
Geoff Bennett, now is in his 11th season at Colorado College, owns a 118-62-31 (.632) record with the program. He needs only two victories to surpass the school standard set by Dang Pibulvech, who set the top marks for both career victories and winning percentage with a 119-26-6 (.804) mark from 1983 through 1990.
Â
The Tigers conclude their season-long four-game road stretch next week when they travel to the University of Wyoming on Friday, Oct. 10, and Colorado State University on Sunday, Oct. 12.
