Box Score Colorado College used a 7-1 surge during the second half to overcome a three-goal deficit and defeat Chapman University, 14-12, on Saturday afternoon at CU's Wilson Field.
After Allie Kontny gave the Panthers a 10-7 advantage just 1:45 into the second half, CC ran off four consecutive tallies to take their first lead since midway through the first half on a goal by
Leigh Nicholl.
Chapman knotted the score at 11-11 when Lauren Nah converted on a free-position shot with 18:56 remaining, but
Mary Taussig put the Tigers ahead to stay 67 seconds later.
Elise Burchard and Maddie Pitkin scored just 50 seconds apart to give Colorado College a 14-11 cushion with 7:55 to play and the Panthers could only muster one more goal before time ran out.
Taussig struck for four goals and dished out a pair of assists to pace the Tigers, while
Madeline Scherer and
Elise Burchard scored two goals apiece.
Taussig also recorded a game-high six draw controls and four ground balls.
Colorado College won 21 of 28 draw controls and recorded a 39-26 advantage in total shots.
Goaltender Kara Podesta made 15 saves for Chapman, which posted a 19-13 edge in ground balls.
Both teams used big scoring runs during the first half.
After falling behind 2-0, the Tigers scored five consecutive goals to open a three-goal cushion.
Brooke Martini scored four of her game-high five goals as the Panthers countered with a 6-0 run to grab a three-goal lead of their own at 8-5.
CC improved to 10-3 overall and 5-0 on the road with its fourth consecutive overall victory.
Kontny recorded four goals and an assist for Chapman, which dropped to 3-7.
Colorado College wraps up its two-game trip to Southern California at Occidental College on Sunday.
