Senior team captain
Maddy Bush posted victories in both singles and doubles on Friday, but her strong performances weren't enough for Colorado College in its league opener in Kerrville, Texas.
While Bush prevailed in three sets at No. 4 singles after teaming up with
Maggie Harwood for an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles, the Tigers dropped a 6-3 decision to Schreiner University in the first of three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches in three days in the Lone Star State.
The only other CC player to prevail was freshman
Gillian Hyde, who defeated her No. 6 singles opponent by a convincing score of 6-2, 6-0.
"This was a good test heading into the conference tourney next week," said head coach
Anthony Weber. "We have three regionally ranked teams in our conference right now and play them all this weekend. Unfortunately, we are having to figure out some doubles teams late in the year with Mary (Edman) out with the injury and Maddy (Bush) bouncing back from shoulder surgery."
The Tigers continue SCAC regular-season play at Trinity University on Saturday and Southwestern University on Sunday before returning to San Antonio for next week's conference tournament.
