With three of its top players sidelined with or at least hampered by injuries, Colorado College ran into a buzz saw it could not quite contend with on Saturday.
The Tigers dropped a 7-0 decision to Division I Air Force at the academy with junior Mary Edman, their No. 1 singles player, missing from the lineup and two seniors – Katie Patterson and Maddy Bush – able to compete only in doubles.
"We were heavily overmatched, and with [those players out], it was going to be uphill no matter what," said head coach Anthony Weber. "I thought it was great that some of our younger players had a chance to compete against D1 opponents and that Maggie (Harwood) had a chance to play 'one' singles against them."
The closest match of the day came at No. 2 doubles, where Harwood and Bush dropped an 8-3 decision to AFA's Lily Forlini and Tiffany Tra
CC, 4-8 overall for the season, resumes action at home against Colorado Christian University on Saturday, April 12.
