Box Score Colorado College cut a 14-point deficit to four midway through the second half, but Centenary College scored 11 of its final 16 points at the free throw line to secure a 64-52 victory on Saturday night at the Gold Dome.
The Tigers clawed their way to within 46-42 after
Chris Lesnansky scored on a layup with 10:44 remaining, and was within five points at 50-45 after senior guard
Ryan Kell connected from behind the arc with 8:17 to go.
From that point on, however, CC managed only seven points while the Gents scored nine of their final 14 at the charity stripe. For the game, Centenary made 18 of 30 free throws while the Tigers went 4-for-8.
Junior forward
Tyler Jonas led Colorado College with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the first double-double of his career.
Lesnansky finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. The senior forward dialed long distance to give the Tigers a 15-13 lead a little more than nine minutes into the game, but the Gents answered with an 18-2 run to take their biggest lead at 31-17 with 5:19 to play in the first half.
CC, which finished with a 36-30 advantage on the glass, slipped to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Sophomore forward James Sapp paced Centenary with 24 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman guard Travion Kirkendoll and sophomore guard Brandon Campbell added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Gents, who improved to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Colorado College travels to Texas for the first time next week for games at Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
