The Colorado College women's tennis team won a pair of matches and extended a couple more to three sets Sunday against Division II Metro State, but eventually fell to the Roadrunners, 7-2, in Denver.
Â
Metro State took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches, but CC's No. 1 duo of senior
Mary Edman and freshman
Fiona Cerf defeated Kasey Love and Haleigh Chobanian, 9-7.
Â
With Cerf sitting out the singles matches due to an injury, sophomore
Gillian Hyde captured CC's only singles victory by rallying to defeat Megan Bell, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8) at the No. 5 position. Fellow sophomore
Maddie Cahill-Sanidas narrowly lost the No. 4 match to Ana-Jelena Vujosevic, 6-7(3), 6-1, 1-0(7), while freshman
Kira Lorenzen won the first set but ended up falling to Kaitlyn Miller at the No. 6 spot, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(10).
Â
"Fiona and Mary kept up their winning ways and kept us alive in the match," CC head coach
Anthony Weber said. "Gillian had a great week of practice and a smart match today and Kira had to step up with Fiona out of the singles matches and nearly pulled out a win at No. 6."
Â
The Tigers play the first of three matches against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponents on Thursday, April 16 against Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
