The Colorado College women's tennis team posted its fourth victory of the season over a Division II opponent with a 6-3 win Sunday over CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo.
The Tigers (10-7) started strong, winning at the top two doubles spots. After CSU-Pueblo won the No. 3 match, the Tigers' No. 1 team of sophomore
Fiona Cerf and freshman
Kendal McGinnis defeated Teresa Haro and Mariana Hosomi, 8-2, then freshmen
Annie Zlevor and
Simone Hall beat Toni Alvarez and Kristin Jensen, 8-4, for a 2-1 lead.
The two teams split the first four singles matches that finished, with sophomore
Natalia Dellavalle defeating Alvarez, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot and McGinnis edging Haro, 7-6(4), 6-2, at No. 3.
With the Tigers leading 4-3, Zlevor put the nail in the coffin when she rallied from one-set down to beat Smanatha Cachutt, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 5 position to clinch the team match. Junior
Maddie Cahill-Sanidas won the No 6 match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 6.
It is great to get another win against an RMAC program," head coach
Anthony Weber said. "We are finally starting to believe we can compete with them. Annie (Zlevor) had to dig deep to clinch the win. Not too many freshmen will come back from a 6-1 opening set deficit to pull out that win."
The Tigers open SCAC matches on Thursday, April 14 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
