The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the doubles matches to defeat Colorado College 5-4 in the Tigers' final home match of the 2015-16 campaign Saturday afternoon at Burghart Courts.
Â
The Tigers started strong, winning at the top two doubles spots. After CMU won the No. 3 match, the Tigers' No. 2 team of freshmen
Madison Doerre and
Simone Hall beat Katie Kirby and Katie Metz, 8-5, then sophomore
Fiona Cerf and freshman
Annie Zlevor followed suit at the top spot by the same score over Emily Beckley and Emily Dodson.
Â
With Cerf forced to sit out the singles matches with an injury, every Tiger moved up one spot and still nearly pulled off the victory over the Division II Mavericks. Sophomore
Natalia Dellavalle rallied from a set down to beat Dodson at the No. 1 spot, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, while junior captain
Maddie Cahill-Sanidas downed Michele Phillips, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.
Â
With CMU winning at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, after Taylor Hershey pulled out a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Hall at No. 5, the team match came down to the No. 6 match between junior
Gillian Hyde and Metz. Metz captured the first set 6-3, but Hyde responded to win the second, 7-5. Metz stayed ahead for the entire third set and won it 6-2 to clinch the match for the Mavericks.
Â
The Tigers travel to Pueblo, Colo., to take on CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, April 10 beginning at 10 a.m.
