The Colorado College women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a 5-0 drubbing of Austin College Friday in Kerrville, Texas. The third-seeded Tigers will face No. 2-seed Southwestern University on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. (CT).
The Tigers (12-8) opened the match by winning at all three doubles spots rather handily. Sophomore
Fiona Cerf and freshman
Kendal McGinnis won their sixth straight match at the top spot with an 8-2 victory over Grace Ortiz and Kirsten Weber. Freshmen
Annie Zlevor and
Simone Hall remained perfect at 8-0 this season with an 8-1 win over Meghan White and Carlye Lide at the No. 2 position, while junior Maddie-Cahill Sanidas and sophomore
Natalia Dellavalle downed Anamariia Kheveli and Magan Green 8-3 at No. 3.
McGinnis and freshman
Madison Doerre won at No. 2 and 4 singles, respectively, in straight sets to clinch the team match. At that point, the other two matches on the court were halted and the Nos. 5 and 6 matches never made it on court.
"Our doubles teams did a great job of going up 3-0 to start the match," head coach
Anthony Weber said. "We worked so much this season on taking more balls out of the air in doubles and it paid off today. Kendal then took her singles match pretty quick and Madison closed out the match."
