CC to Host Rhodes in NCAA Tournament

The Colorado College women's lacrosse team earned the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 and will face Rhodes College on Sunday, May 15, at 1 p.m. MT on Stewart Field.

The Tigers, ranked No.1 in the West Region, earned an at-large berth after posting a 13-2 record. CC is riding an eight-game winning streak, with its last seven victories occurring on the road.

Rhodes defeated top-seeded Centre College, 8-7, in the championship game of the Southern Athletic Association to claim the league's automatic bid.

The Lynx are 13-4, including a 14-6 loss to Augustana College on Feb. 28. Colorado College defeated the Vikings, 20-13, in the regular season finale on May 1 in Rock Island, Ill.

CC has won its last five NCAA Tournament openers and owns a 7-7 all-time postseason record.

The Tigers advanced to the national semifinals in 2005, where they dropped a 15-11 decision to No. 1 Salisbury.

Colorado College opened the 2007 tournament with a 15-9 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Stewart Field in Colorado Springs, and then set an NCAA Division III Tournament record by overcoming a 9-0 deficit in a 12-11 overtime victory against No. 18 Nazareth College in Salisbury, Md.

CC is led by a pair of All-America candidates, junior midfielder Mary Taussig and sophomore attacker Steph Kelly.

Kelly ranks second in Division III averaging 8.87 draw controls, seventh averaging 5.73 points and 13th averaging 2.80 assists per game.

She leads the team with 86 points and 42 assists, both of which are school single-season records, and is second with 44 goals.

Taussig is 14th in Division III averaging 4.73 ground balls and tied for 15th averaging 2.93 caused turnovers per game.

She leads the team with 71 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers, and is third with single-season highs of 59 points and 43 goals.

As a team, the Tigers rank first nationally in draw controls (18.53), and third in both scoring offense (17.4) and points (27.27) per game.
