Box Score The Colorado College women's soccer team kicked off its Mountain West schedule in style.

Freshman midfielder Madeline Stesney scored her first collegiate goal and junior goalkeeper Louisa Mackenzie recorded a shutout in her first start of the season as CC defeated the University of New Mexico, 1-0, on Friday night at the UNM Soccer Complex.

Stesney put the Tigers on the board just 20 second into the contest when she headed a cross from sophomore forward Clara Richter past New Mexico goalkeeper Tayler Hammack.

Richter has been involved in four of the team's five game-winning goals this season, scoring three and setting up one.

The Tigers nearly double their lead in the 26th minute, but a Lobo defender cleared a header by freshman midfielder Sarah Lyons before it could cross the line.

Junior goalkeeper Louis Mackenzie, who was playing in front of her hometown crowd, stopped three shots en route to her sixth career shutout.

Mackenzie made her first save with 6:41 remaining in the first half on a shot by Savannah Viola. She wasn't tested again until midway through the second half when she stopped a Viola shot from the left wing and another from Emily Chavez from the top of the box.

Colorado College finished with a 12-10 advantage in total shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The CC defense now has five clean sheets for the season and lowered its team goals-against average to 1.21.

The Tigers improved to 5-4-0 overall, while the Lobos slipped to 4-3-2.

Colorado College wraps up its two-game road trip on Sunday at San Diego State University.
