CC Drops SCAC Opener at Dallas

Box Score For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Colorado College men's basketball team came up short in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.

The University of Dallas connected on nine of 20 three-point attempts, including a pair on consecutive possessions during the final five minutes, and held on for a 69-65 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Maher Center.

The Tigers scored six straight points to cut the deficit to 59-58 on a jumper by senior guard Eric Houska with 5:33 to play, but back-to-back treys by freshman guards Joshua Nunn and Michael Wambsganss pushed the UD advantage back to seven and Colorado College never got closer than four points during the final four minutes.

Colorado College took its final lead at 46-44 when Houska canned a pair of free throws 6:23 into the second half, but the Crusaders answered with a 15-6 run to a lead they would not relinquish.

Houska produced game highs of 21 points and six assists for CC, which dropped to 4-4 overall.

Senior forward Chris Martin recorded his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior forward John Hatch scored 19 points and blocked five shots for the Tigers, while sophomore forward CooXooEii finished with 10 points.

Colorado College took its biggest lead of the game at 17-13 on a Martin layup midway through the first half when there were 12 lead changes and the score was tied six times.

Freshman forward Spencer Levi recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for UD, which snapped a four-game losing streak against the Tigers.

Junior guard Darrius Colvin finished with a team-high 18 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 6-1 overall.

Dallas scored 28 points off turnovers and their bench came through with 25 points.

CC stays in Texas to play a non-conference game at the University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
