Box Score In a battle of the top two teams in the West Region, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-11 decision to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman goaltender
Remy Wells made a season-high 15 saves, but the Tiger offense never found its stride while playing its second high-intensity game in a 42-hour span.
Junior attacker
Steph Kelly struck for four goals and dished out a pair of assists for CC, which slipped to 11-2 on the season.
Mary Taussig was a force all over the field for Colorado College. In addition to scoring three times, the senior midfielder caused six turnovers, grabbed six ground balls and had three draw controls.
Taussig struck twice in a span of 42 seconds to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead less than three minutes into the game, but CMS answered with a 4-0 run and never trailed.
After Kelly's first goal pulled the CC to within 5-4 with 13:51 remaining in the first half, the Athenas answered with markers from Evan Murphy and Emily Cohen to build a 7-4 halftime lead.
Cohen added her fourth goal 18 seconds into the second half to give CMS a four-point lead for the first time.
The teams traded scores until Murphy and Corie Hack found the net 46 seconds apart to give Claremont a 14-9 lead with 6:37 to play.
Kelly and freshman attacker
Eva King added goals during the final 5:17 for Colorado College.
Lauren Clubb also scored four goals for the Athenas, who were playing their first meaningful game in a week.
Sarah Reid stopped seven shots for CMS, which improved to 9-1.
The Tigers play for their third game in four days on Sunday at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
