The 2016-17 season came to an end Sunday for the Colorado College women's tennis team with a hard-fought 5-4 loss to Austin College in the third-place match of the 2017 SCAC Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

The Tigers, who defeated Austin College by the same score one week ago, took an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. The No. 3 team of senior
Maddie Cahill-Sanidas and sophomore
Madison Doerre led things off with an 8-5 victory over Anamariia Kheveli and Katie Seibert, then sophomores
Annie Zlevor and
Simone Hall downed Anna Sergiovanni and Carlye Lide, 9-7, at No. 2. Freshmen
Jenna McDonald and
Caroline James dropped an 8-5 decision at the No. 1 spot to Grace Ortiz and Kirsten WeberÂ. Â

In singles, Austin College took four of the six matches. Sergiovanni beat James, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2, while Ortiz defeated Doerre, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3. Zlevor captured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Seibert at the No. 4 spot and McDonald rallied to beat Weber, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 1 position to give CC a 4-3 lead, but the 'Roos clinched the match with a pair of three-set wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots.

Magan Green rallied from a set down to defeat Cahill-Sanidas, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5, while Lide went the distance and clinched it for Austin with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, win over Hall at No. 6.

The Tigers finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 7-11 record.
