Calderon, Williams Lead CC to Second at SCAC Meet

Led by a pair of runners with a top-five finish, the Colorado College men's cross country team placed second at the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday in Kerrville, Texas. The Tigers placed six runners in the top 14 to earn all-conference honors and finished with 41 points, six behind team champion Trinity University.

Junior Tony Calderon earned his third consecutive all-SCAC selection by finishing fourth, covering the 8K course in 26 minutes, 21 seconds, two seconds ahead of fellow junior Jack Williams, who finished fifth in 26:23.

Senior David Eik finished ninth for the second consecutive year in 26:44, followed by junior Adam Mahler in 11th with a personal-best time of 26:48. Eik is one of only 21 men's cross country runners to earn all-SCAC honors all four years.

Sophomore Paul Olsen (26:55) and freshman Josh Fry (27:02) also earned all-SCAC honors by placing 12th and 13th, respectively. Fry earned the Newcomer of the Year award by the conference.

Freshmen Sam Rodriguez (19th), Ben Gellman (22nd) and Andres Madrigal (27th), along with sophomore Andrew West (29th) and senior Adam Holliday (35th) rounded out the Tiger roster.

After the meet, Mahler was named the inaugural SCAC Men's Cross Country Elite 19 award winner. The SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA, at least 60 credit hours and earns All-SCAC honors for that particular season. Mahler currently holds a 3.80 GPA.

The Tigers will run at the NCAA Division III West Region Meet on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Walla Walla, Wash.
