Box Score Barely 24 hours after finishing the block and then jetting cross-country to Philadelphia, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team showed no sign of fatigue while cruising to a 19-8 victory over Cabrini University on Thursday afternoon at Dixon Field.
Sophomore attackers
Eva King and
Allie Thuet struck for four goals apiece as the Tigers improved to 12-3 with its sixth straight win. Â
King also dished out a career-best five assists en route to a personal-best nine points as CC surpassed its season average of 15.50 goals per game for the eighth time this season.
The product of Baltimore leads the Tigers with 33 assists, which ranks third on the program's single-season list.
Senior attackers
Annie DeFrino and
Steph Kelly added three goals apiece for Colorado College, while sophomore midfielders
Avery Melville and
Lauren Pejza each produced a goal and two assists.
As a team, the Tigers earned an assist on 12 of their 19 goals.
Thuet scored three of her career-high four goals during the first half to help CC race to an early 8-1 lead.
After Cabrini's Avery Murphy struck for an extra-player goal with 12:40 into the game to trim her team's deficit to six, Colorado College answered with six consecutive markers to open a 14-2 lead after 30 minutes.
Murphy had a goal and an assist as the Cavaliers scored three times during the opening 5:01 of the second half. The change in momentum didn't last long because the Tigers scored the next five goals to open their largest lead of the game at 19-5 with 7:05 to play.
At the other end of the field, the CC defense held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals for the fifth time in the last 10 games.
First-year goaltender
Alena Stern made five saves during the first 30 minutes to improve to 11-2. Senior
Zoe Frolik stopped four shots in the second half.
Senior defender
Cole Vanacore picked up a game-high six ground balls for Colorado College, while junior midfielder
Ellie Meyer and sophomore defender
Cassis Schafer caused a pair of turnovers.
Murphy led Cabrini with three goals and a pair of assists. She also recorded a game-high eight draw controls.
Devon Scharf finished with two saves for the Cavaliers, who slipped to 9-6.
The Tigers play at No. 3 The College of New Jersey on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
