The Colorado College women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seed and 19
th-ranked Trinity University Saturday in the semifinals of the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Lifetime Fitness in Colorado Springs.
Â
Trinity took an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches against fourth-seeded Colorado College, including an 8-4 victory by Mary and Zoe Kaffen over junior
Allie Burak and sophomore
Jenna McDonald at the No. 1 position.
Â
In singles, Trinity kept up the momentum, but a couple of close matches were pulled from the courts after the Texas Tigers clinched. Zoe Kaffen downed
Tess Rubin, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3, while Ashley DeBauge beat McDonald, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2
Â
However, Burak took Caroline Kutach to a tiebreak in the first set before falling, 7-2. Burak was leading 2-1 in the second set when the match was pulled. Meanwhile, junior
Caroline James won the first set over Andrea De Leon, 7-5, at No. 4 and was down 1-2 when that match was halted.
Â
Colorado College will play in the third-place match on Sunday, April 22, against Austin College, beginning at 11 a.m., at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. Â Â
