Boise State is 15-2-0 overall and sits atop the Mountain West table with a 7-1-0 mark after posting 1-0 victories at Wyoming and Colorado State last week. The Broncos' only loss was a 2-1 result at Fresno State. BSU is 8-1-0 at home this season, losing only to the University of Utah, 1-0 in overtime, in its fifth game of the season.
Utah State is 6-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the conference after falling 1-0 at CSU and 2-1 at Wyoming. The Aggies, who are 2-2-0 at home this year, are currently 10th in the MW standings with four points.
Boise State has won three consecutive games against Colorado College to take a 4-2-0 series lead. Last year, the Broncos prevailed 1-0 in near blizzard conditions at Stewart Field. The series is level at 1-1-0 in games played in Boise, where the Tigers dropped a 3-2 result in their most recent visit in 2017.
CC holds a 3-2-3 lead in the all-time series against Utah State after posting a 1-0 victory last year at Stewart Field. The last time the teams met in Logan, the game ended in a 1-1 draw, giving the Tigers a 0-1-2 mark in three previous trips to the Bell Soccer Field.
Colorado College averages 1.64 goals per game and concedes just 1.07. Sophomore forward
Jacqui Hand, who owns a team-best eight goals, leads the team with 17 points. Junior midfielder
Jenna Wilt, is second with 15 points on three goals and nine assists. Wilt shares the team lead of nine assists with sophomore forward
Kiley Suter, who is third with 13 points.
The defensive corps of
Camille Weaver,
Kayla Montoya,
Alexa Porter,
Toni Tsamasfyros and
Tayla Wheeler, along with holding midfielders
Madeline Stesney and
Johanna Hamblett, has been impressive during the first 14 games of the season. Senior
Molly Hiniker is 2-4-0 in goal with a 1.61 goals-against average and a .667 saves percentage.
Half of Colorado College's 14 games so far this season were decided by one goal, including six of eight Mountain West contests. The Tigers are 3-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in conference matches decided by one goal. CC is 4-0-0 when scoring three or more goals, 6-2-0 when scoring at least two, but just 2-4-0 when scoring less than two. Â
When Hand scored the first goal of the season off assists from Wilt and Suter, it obviously was a sign of good things to come. The terrific threesome has factored in 20 of Colorado College's 23 goals this season, combining for 13 goals and 19 assists.
Hand's eight goals are the most by a Tiger since Sarah Schweiss struck for 10 in 2015, while her 17 points are the most since
Lauren Milliet produced 22 in 2017. Suter and Wilt currently are tied with Kaeli Vandersluis (2013) for third place on the program's single-season list with nine assists. The record of 10 is currently shared by Caroline Crittenden (1996) and Kasey Clark (2000).
Next week, Colorado College plays its final game of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1, when the Tigers visit Air Force for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The top six teams in the conference table qualify for the 2019 Mountain West Championship, which begins on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Boise State University.
The Colorado College Office of Alumni & Family Relations is sponsoring a tailgate party at the U.S. Air Force Academy before the Tigers and Falcons tangle on Friday, Nov. 1, at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Pre-game festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. and the game kicks off 90 minutes later.
CC is looking for its ninth consecutive victory over Air Force and its fourth appearance in the Mountain West championship since joining the league in 2014.
