The Colorado College tennis teams opened play at the ITA Division III West Region Championships Friday in Claremont, Calif.

Two players from each team made the trip, senior
Jenna McDonald and freshman
Olivia Dicks from the women's team, and Senior
Noah Forman and junior
Sam Hum from the men's squad.

McDonald was the only Tiger to win in the first round on Friday, defeating Singdha Baruah of Whittier, 7-5, 6-4, in the women's "B" bracket. McDonald, the top-seed in the bracket, then downed Sophia Gawrit of Cal Lutheran, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals.

Dicks, meanwhile, lost to Justine Leong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round of the "A" bracket.

McDonald and Dicks lost 8-2 in doubles to the tournament's No. 2 seed, Sarah Bahsoun and Nicole Tan of Claremont.

On the men's side, Forman and Hum each lost his first round match. Forman fell to Whittier's Pim Van Der Meer, 6-4, 6-2, in the "A" draw, while Hum dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Jake Haffner of Cal Lutheran in the "B" bracket.

Forman earned a win by walkover in the first round of consolation, while Hum defeated Jake Will of Cal Tech, 6-4, 6-1, in consolation.

In doubles, Forman and Hum lost to Len Kanemoto and Jacob Lee of Chapman University, 8-5.

The regional tournament continues on Saturday, Oct. 5.
