The Colorado College women's soccer team faces a must-win situation this week in the final road games of the season if the Tigers hope to climb to sixth place in the Mountain West table and earn one of the six spots in the upcoming Mountain West Championship. CC plays at the University of New Mexico on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., then flies to Southern California for a date with San Diego State on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. MT.Â

Colorado College enters Thursday's game at New Mexico with a 3-9-3 overall record and a 2-3-3 mark in the Mountain West mark after playing to a pair of ties last weekend at Stewart Field. The Tigers, who are tied for eighth place with nine points, fought to a 2-2 draw with Boise State University on Thursday night, then went the distance in a 1-1 tie with Utah State University on Sunday. CC is now 1-5-0 overall on the road this season, including a 1-2-0 record in conference play.

The Lobos are 10-4-1 overall and tied for first atop the MW table with a 5-2-1 conference record after splitting a pair of games on the road last week. UNM fell 1-0 at San Jose State, but rebounded to defeat Fresno State, 2-1. UNM is 4-1-0 overall at home this season, where they are 3-0-0 in conference fixtures.

San Diego State takes a 6-9-1 overall record and Mountain West mark of 4-3-1 into Thursday's game against Air Force. The Aztecs, who dropped a 1-0 result at Fresno State and battled San Jose State to a scoreless draw, are 3-4-0 at home this season, which includes a 2-0-0 record in conference games. SDSU currently is tied for fourth place with 13 points.

New Mexico leads the all-time series with Tigers, 10-7-0, which includes 5-0 and 1-0 victories during the 2021 spring season. Prior to the five-goal loss in Albuquerque, the six previous games between Colorado College and the Lobos were decided by one goal. The teams are all square at 4-4-0 in the eight previous games played at New Mexico. CC's most recent victory in Albuquerque was a 1-0 result in 2016.

San Diego State leads the all-time series with the Tigers, 6-2-3, which includes a 4-0-3 advantage at home. They are meeting for the first time since 2019 when the Aztecs prevailed 3-2 at Stewart Field. The last time CC visited San Diego State, the teams played to a 1-1 draw.Â

New Mexico scores an average of 2.0 goals per game and allows 1.07. Freshman forward Zaria Katesigwa and senior forward Jadyn Edwards lead the Lobos with 19 points apiece. Katesigwa has a team-best eight goals and three assists, while Edwards has seven goals and a team-high five assists. Senior forward Molly Myers also has double-digit points with seven goals, which ranks third for UNM. Senior Emily Johnson is 7-3-1 in goal and owns a .097 GAA and a .817 saves percentage. Â Â

Senior forward Anne Toohey, a transfer from North Carolina State, is second with seven points on two goals and a team-best three assists. Junior forward Rachelle Elve is tied for second with a pair of goals and is one of six Aztecs with a game-winning goal. Sophomore Alexa Madueno has a 6-8-0 record in goal along with a 1.71 GAA and a .750 saves percentage.

Next week, Colorado College closes out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 28, when the Tigers play host Air Force at 7 p.m. on Stewart Field. The Mountain West Championship begins on Monday, Nov. 1, with a pair of first-round games at Boise State University.
