The Colorado College women's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season this weekend at the Metro State Invitational in Denver, Colo.
 
Freshman Lindsay Popeo advanced to the quarterfinals of the 'A' bracket when her opponent, Tilly Blasdale of CSU-Pueblo withdrew. Popeo fell to Metro State's Maria Heras, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
 
In the 'B' bracket, senior Grace Dereemer and junior Gigi Jensen each won her first-round match in the 'B' flight in straight sets, but fell to Marie Cool of Metro State and Kristin Thomas of Colorado Mesa, respectively, in the quarterfinals.
 
Senior Olivia Dicks won a pair of matches and advanced to the final of the back draw in the 'B' bracket, but was unable to play due to rain on Saturday that pushed all the matches back.
 
In doubles, Jensen and freshman Jordan Phillips won their first match in the 'A' bracket due to a walkover, then fell to Maris Heras and Kinsey Fields of Metro State, 6-1, in the semifinals.
 
In the 'B' bracket, Popeo and sophomore Christina Heffron beat Alyssa Wells and Malaya Pendon of CSU-Pueblo, 6-1, and Dereemer and sophomore Romi Hodor downed Avery Soto and Sonrisa Bustamante of CSU-Pueblo by the same score. Both teams lost in the semifinals.
 
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, Sept. 15, with a dual match against Lubbock Christian Univ., beginning at 4:30 p.m., in Pueblo, Colo.
