Box Score The Colorado College men's basketball team fell to George Fox University 73-69 in a neutral-site game on Friday in Forest Grove, OR.
The Tigers were limited to 38 percent shooting despite holding the Bruins to only 36 percent from the floor. Three CC players scored in double digits, including
Dinari Boykin, who led the way with another double-double, racking up 16 points, 11 rebounds and an assist.
Scott Ruegg and
Asher Nofziger combined for 24 points.
"Tonight was a tough one," head coach
Jeff Conarroe said. "I thought George Fox played well, and their full-court pressure really sped us up at times. They play a different style of game and we didn't adjust well enough to win the game."
It was knotted up at 29-29 at the half as eight different Tigers had points on the board. The defense was rolling too, holding George Fox to 32.4 percent shooting at the break. CC couldn't take advantage of the good defense and shot only 33.3 percent in the first half.
In the second half, it was the time at the charity stripe that helped elevate the Bruins in the end. They were 15-20 from the line after not attempting a single free throw in the first half. The Tigers made 11 of their 18 free throw attempts.
James Moore of the Bruins led all scorers with 22 points after going 10-11 from the line.
The Tigers and Bruins exchanged leads in the first few minutes of the second half but George Fox would eventually take the lead with 15 minutes and didn't trail for the remainder of the game. CC overcame multiple six and seven-point deficits to tie it up with minutes to play but couldn't regain the lead in the late moments of the game.
CC outrebounded George Fox 54-34, including 16-8 offensively. Ruegg led the team with three steals while
Trey Crawford and
Gavin Carter also collected a pair of steals. The Tigers also finished with more points in the paint (36-32).
"We were better with our press breaker, but in the end, we are turning the ball over way too much," Conarroe said. "I'm encouraged by our continued dominance on the glass. This team has great potential if we can become more disciplined, come together and play unselfishly."
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday against Pacific University at 8:00 p.m. (PT)
