Three Tigers Earn All-West Region Honors

Three members of the Colorado College track and field teams were selected to the 2023 Division III All-West Region teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Junior James Settles earned a spot on the men's team for the 5K and 10K, while sophomores Elliot Singer and Sydney Rankin are on the women's 10K and 1,500-meter teams, respectively.

To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top five of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS (Track and Field Results Reporting System) data or be part of a top-three relay team.

Settles owns the fourth-fastest 5K time in the region with a school-record 14:08.47 at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles and is expected to compete in the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in that race. He has the fifth-best 10K time with a school-record 30:20.80 at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan.

Settles won both races last month at the SCAC Championships in Georgetown, Texas.

Singer, the reigning two-time SCAC champion in 10K, earned her second consecutive all-region honor in the that race with the fourth-best regional time at 36:50.25 at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet in Azusa, Calif.

Rankin, meanwhile, has the region's fifth-best time in the 1,500 with a school-record 4:37.11 at the Oxy Invitational. She captured the SCAC title in that race last month.

"It is quite an achievement to earn All-Region honors as the national list keeps more competitive each year," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "James, Elliot and Sydney all had a great season this spring. I'm proud of their accomplishments."
