Tigers Hit The Road To Face Utah State

The Colorado College women's soccer team takes one of its most arduous road trips of the season, with matches against Boise State and San Diego State. The Tigers are coming off back-to-back ties against San Diego State and New Mexico.

CC travels to Logan, UT, on Thursday before busing to Boise, ID, on Sunday.

Last Time Out

The Tigers hosted the Aztecs and Lobos at Stewart Field last Thursday and Sunday; both matches resulted in a 0-0 draw. CC collected two conference points after losing its previous two Mountain West matchups at UNLV and Nevada.

On Thursday, CC outshot SDSU 14-10 and had numerous chances in the second half to take the lead. Brett Tsamasfyros had the best look on the net in the 87th minute, but her shot was saved.

Kendall Memoly led the team with four shots (two on goal).

On Sunday, CC had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal over New Mexico, putting two in each half against UN goalkeeper Callie Droitsch. Memoly had a point-blank look at the net in the 13th minute, but Droitsch made an impressive save. Then, she did the same against Brett Tsamafyros in the 54th minute to keep the game scoreless.

Defensively, it was one of the best set of matches the Tigers have had all season. Goalkeeper Regan Wallace earned back-to-back shutout wins; she has four on the year.

Found Their Edge Again

The Tigers play some of their best soccer when they are dominating defensively. Against the Aztecs and the Lobos, CC held its opponents to zero goals and 8.5 shots per game.

CC shut down the Lobos' attack on Sunday, holding New Mexico to only seven shots (two on goal), tied for a season-low. The other occurrence was on Aug. 28 against UCCS in a 4-1 win. The Mountain Lions did find the back of the net.

The two points for the Tigers in the consecutive ties were a good momentum swing on their season; it also ended the three-game losing streak. CC hopes to return to the win column on Thursday in Logan, UT.

Scouting The Opposition

The Aggies enter Thursday with a 3-1-2 record and are fourth in the Mountain West standings. USU has a 12-1-3 record overall and was ranked No. 11 in last week's United Coaches national poll.

Wyoming handed Utah State its first loss of the season last Thursday, 2-0. The Cowgirls ended the longest unbeaten streak in program history. The Aggies opened the year with 14 straight lossless matches.

USU rebounded with a 1-1 tie against Colorado State on Sunday. The Aggies currently possess the best offense in the Mountain West, leading all 12 teams in goals, shots and points per game. Tess Werts leads the team and is second in the conference with seven goals. Werts is also second in the conference in points with 17 (three assists).

Up Next

After the road trip out west, the Tigers return home for their final homestand of the season: San Jose State on Thursday, Oct. 24, and Fresno State on Sunday, Oct. 27.

Both the Spartans and Bulldogs are below the Tigers in the Mountain West. Senior Day for the CC seniors will be on Oct. 27 against Fresno State.

CC will face Air Force in the annual City Of Champions Cup on Wednesday, Oct. 30th, at Weidner Field.
