Colorado College sophomores
Kaidan Mbereko and
Noah Laba added to their list of accolades Friday when each was named a 2023-24 CCM/AHCA All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association.
Â
Mbereko, from Aspen, Colo., was selected as the first-team goaltender on the West teams, while Laba, a forward from Northville, Mich., earned a spot on the West's second team.
Â
"We are incredibly proud of Kaidan and Noah," head coach
Kris Mayotte said. "To be chosen as an All-American is an incredible honor. They have been able to make a lasting impact on our program both as players and has people and leaders."
Â
Mbereko was stellar all season for the Tigers, starting all 37 games and earning the NCHC Goaltender of the Year Award by a unanimous vote. He finished the season with 21 wins, the most by a CC goalie since 2007-08, and led the NCHC with a 2.40 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. A first-team All-NCHC pick, he was one of three finalists for the Mike Richter Award as the nation's top Division I goalie.
Â
"Kaidan continues to prove that he is one of the best goalies in the country," Mayotte said. "To see the way he conducts himself every day as a teammate and a competitor is something I am truly grateful for. Our program has been able to take a couple of big steps recently and Kaidan is a big reason why. He exemplifies everything great about college athletics and I can't envision a more deserving All-American."
Â
Laba, the NCHC Defensive Forward of the Year, led the Tigers with 37 points, scoring a team-high 20 goals and tying for the team lead with 17 assists. The first-team all-NCHC selection finished fourth in the country with seven game-winning goals, including a nation-leading four in overtime. Â
Â
"Noah really took off this year," Mayotte added. "Following a very good freshman season he became one of the most dominant forces in the NCHC. Noah is a complete player who excels in all aspects of the game and attacked every challenge presented with a hunger that helped drive our team. He is a fantastic hockey player and leader and I couldn't be happier for him to be honored as an All-American."
Â
Mbereko and Laba are the first to join the All-American list from CC since forward Nick Halloran, who was a second-team selection in 2018. The program's last first-team All-American was forward Jaden Schwartz in 2011-12. This also marks the first time multiple Tigers were selected in one season since 2008 (forward Chad Rau, defenseman Jack Hillen and goalie Richard Bachman).
  Â
Since the program's inception more than seven decades ago, 47 different CC players have received All-America recognition a total of 63 times.
