Settles Collects Second All-America Honor in 5K

Recent graduate James Settles closed out Colorado College's 2023-24 athletic year by earning first-team All-America honors for the second consecutive season. He posted an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter final Saturday evening at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Settles, who finished fourth in the 5K at last year's Division III national meet, completed Saturday's  race in a time of 14:21.65 after entering the competition with the 18th-fastest time in Division III.

"James ran a great race to end his career," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "To be an All-American at the past two track and field championships shows his hard work and dedication to the sport."

Settles joins Julian Boggs as the only Colorado College males to earn multiple All-America honors in track & field. Boggs was an All-American in the 5K in 2006 (2nd) and 2007 (5th).

The Claremont, Calif., product finishes his career at CC as one of the most accomplished runners ever at the school. In addition to his two track & field All-America honors, he finished fourth in the 2023 Division III Cross Country Championships and captured six individual SCAC titles in cross country and track & field.
