The Tigers aim for their fourth-straight win when they travel to Denver to take on the Pioneers at the University of Denver on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. MT. Colorado College is coming off a 4-1 route of UCCS on Thursday, increasing its momentum heading into the first road game since Aug 16.
Last Time Out
Just because its Labor Day weekend doesn't mean the Tigers aren't putting in work as they head into an anticipated match against DU. CC secured its first three-game winning streak and first four-goal performance since 2019.
Senior
Kaelin Enga led the team with four points (1g, 2a) against the Mountain Lions, while
Kylie Smith,
Finley Schoenbeck, and
Dayleigh Bos scored on Thursday.
The four points are a career-high for the Colorado Springs native. Enga is the fourth Tigers this season with four or more points. Schoenbeck currently leads the team with five (2g, 1a).
Finding The Way
The beginning of the season carried some questions for the Tigers as they searched for their offensive identity after losing numerous top scorers from 2023. So far this season, the eight goals have been split between five players.
Schoenbeck, Smith and
Kendall Memoly have two goals, while Enga and Bos also have tallies on the stat sheet. In 2023, the Tigers finished the year with only 15 goals, with two players scoring multiple throughout the 18 games.
If they continue at this pace for the remaining 15 matches, CC is on course to score 32 goals this season and is currently third in the Mountain West Conference with 22 points.
Defensive Step Up
CC's defense has surrendered only one goal in the last 270 minutes of soccer. The lone goal came in the 89th minute against UCCS when the Tigers were already up 4-0.
Goalkeepers
Regan Wallace and
Zahra Cheeseman have combined for three wins, eight saves and a .917 save percentage during the current win streak.
The Tigers have out shot their opponents in shots on goal 21-9 in the last three games.
Scouting the Pios
DU enters Sunday with a three-game win streak of its own, having defeated then-No. 24 Texas A&M, Lamar, and most recently Cal State Northridge.
The Pioneers have the same 3-2 record as the Tigers but have scored one more goal than CC. Both teams carry a similar "spread-the-wealth" offense; six players contribute to the nine total this year.
Sophomore Michaela McGowan leads the team with seven points (1g, 5a), while three other players are tied with two goals each.
CC is 19-7-2 all-time vs. DU, including a 3-0-1 record in the last four matchups dating back to 2014. The two programs last met in 2023, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
