Sophomore Avery Hickman dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Elina Shalaev of Occidental in the 'B' flight final on Sunday at the ITA West Regional Tennis Tournament in Claremont, Calif..

Hickman advanced to the final with a pair of victories on Saturday. She rallied to defeat Brooke Waite of Chapman University, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(7), in the quarterfinals, then handled Chapman's Makaylee Dahms, 6-2, 6-0, in the semis.

In doubles, Hickman and freshman Ally Lowe fell to Carissa Gerung / Aoi Kunimoto of Cal Tech, 8-3, in the consolation final.

"This was a terrific finish to our fall season," head coach Anthony Weber said. "It was the first time we had two players in the A Singles draw. The 'luck of the draw" played a factor in our results as Kala and Aspen lost to either a #1 or #2 seed in singles. Avery advancing to the B Draw final was huge. She had to win ugly at some point in this tournament, but she stepped up mentally to find a way to get it done."

The Tigers wrapped up their fall schedule with the regional tournament.
