Colorado College sophomore forward
Owen Beckner will represent college hockey at the prestigious Spengler Cup this year after he was named to the U.S. Collegiate Selects roster on Thursday.
The 2025 Spengler Cup will be the first time a select team representing college hockey has ever competed in the event. The U.S. Collegiate Selects team will be comprised of active NCAA Division I players of any nationality representing all six conferences and the Division I independent programs.
Beckner is an assistant captain for the Tigers this season and currently leads the team with 12 points, six goals and six assists.
Last year as a freshman, the Victoria, B.C., product tied for the team lead with 20 assists and led the squad in scoring with 27 points, the most by a first-year Tiger since All-American Scott Swanson had 48 during the 1995-96 campaign.
The Spengler Cup has been held annually in Davos, Switzerland since 1923. It is a six-team invitational tournament traditionally featuring club and national teams from Europe and North America. It is hosted by the Swiss professional team HC Davos each year from Dec. 26-31 at Eisstadion Davos.
The U.S. Collegiate Selects team will be coached by Penn State head coach and former Colorado College player Guy Gadowsky. The final seven players on the collegiate roster were named on Thursday, with a total of 25 players on the squad competing at the Spengler Cup.
The U.S. Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open play Spengler Cup play on Dec. 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and a maximum of five during the six-day event.

th-ranked Colorado College (6-3-1, 1-2-1 NCHC) open the annual Gold Pan series with a home-and-home series against No. 4 Denver (6-3-1, 2-0-0 NCHC) this weekend, Nov. 14-15. Friday's game will be at Magness Arena, while Saturday's contest will be played at Ed Robson Arena.
