Tigers Play Final Home Matches on Saturday

The Colorado College tennis teams wrap up their home seasons on Saturday, April 12, at Memorial Park. Both teams will battle Division II Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m., then the women will play CSU-Pueblo at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Tigers faced a pair of Division II team on the road last weekend.
 
On Saturday, April 5, the women's tennis team gave everything it had Saturday but fell just short to Division II Colorado Mesa, 4-3, in Grand Junction, Colo.  
 
The Tigers, ranked 40th in Division III, took an early 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Kala Komanduri and Amelia Karr captured the No. 2 match, 6-4, over Makenna Livingston and Delia Maier, while Avery Hickman and Ally Lowe downed Catalina Ballon and Audrey Orear, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot.
 
The teams split the first two matches off the court, and after Lindsay Popes defeated Bollon, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, CC held a 2-1 lead.
 
The top three singles matches went the distance, and Mesa captured two of them. Livingston beat Komanduri, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0(4) at the top spot, while Lowe rallied to down Devyn Rodriguez, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(5).
 
With Mesa winning comfortably at the No. 6 spot, the team match came down to the No. 3 match. Mesa' Jade Brilhante and CC's Aspen Young traded a pair of 6-1 sets before Brilhante pulled out a 10-8 decision in the third-set tiebreak.
 
Jane Steur completed the Mesa victory with a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Abby Wilson at No. 6.
 
The men, meanwhile, won the doubles point, but fell to CMU, 6-1.
 
CC captured the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Dominik Kaminski and Sam Dilworth defeated Philemon Jabin and Emil Hultman, 6-4, at the No. 1 position, while Nick Anderson and Nico Davis beat Romain Payan and Jamison Pfingston, 7-6(3), at No. 3.  
 
The Mavericks rallied to win five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Lenny Lehmitz posted the Tigers' best result by taking Diogo Manzano to three sets at the No. 5 spot, 7-6(2), 4-6, 1-0(8).
 
The following day, both teams rebounded to beat Metro State in Denver.
 
The women led from the start and defeated MSUD for the first time since 2016, 5-2.
 
CC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Tigers' No. 2 team of Kala Komanduri and Amelia Karr defeated Kambra Roles and Kim Heddes, 7-5, and Avery Hickman and Ally Lowe won the No. 3 match, 6-1, over Monica Guarin and Louise Hosking.
 
Three of the singles matches were extended to three sets, including the No. 1 match where Komanduri pulled out a thrilling, 6-3, 6-7(6), 1-0(3) victory over Hanna Haber.
 
Metro won the Nos. 4 and 6 matches in three sets, but the Tigers captured the other three in straight sets.
 
Lowe won the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-4, over Heddes, while Young remained perfect this spring in singles with a 6-3, 6-0, victory over Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas at the No. 3 spot.
 
Lucia Moravek rounded out the team victory with a decisive, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Guarin at No. 5.
 
The men downed Metro for the first time since 2010, 5-2. The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and never looked back by winning the top two doubles matches. Dominik Kaminski and Sam Dilworth defeated Alessandro Munoz and Marco Jalalian, 7-6, at the No. 1 position, then Nate Beerman and Lenny Lehmitz captured the No. 2 match, 6-2, over Enzo Ingheterra / Lluc Limongi Ollers.
 
Three of the six singles matches were extended to three sets and the Tigers won all three. Lucas Pastor took the No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5, over Ollers, then Aidan Little defeated Alejandro Jiminez Gomez, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(8) at No. 2.
 
Mateo Melgar won in three sets at the No. 6 spot, beating Ingheterra, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(3), and Lehmitz sealed the deal with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Maximo Lawlor at No. 5.
 
 
Ally Lowe Wins SCAC Weekly Award
Freshman Ally Lowe was named the SCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6.
 
Lowe, from Arvada, Colo., won both of her singles matches at the No. 2 position against Division II opponents last weekend. She opened the weekend by rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(5) victory over Colorado Mesa's Devyn Rodriguez, then helped the Tigers defeat Metro State for the first time since 2016 with a decisive, 6-2, 6-2 win over Kim Heddes.
 
This is the second weekly award of the season for Lowe, who is 4-3 at the No. 2 spot this season.
 
 
Rankings
The women's team is ranked 42nd in the latest ITA Division III national poll, while the men checked in at 61st.
 
 
Up Next
The Tigers play their first SCAC matches of the season next weekend, beginning on Friday, April 18, against Concordia-Texas in Austin, Texas.
