Tigers Prepared for SCAC Championships

The Colorado College men's and women's tennis teams are traveling to Waco, Texas, this weekend for the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

The women are seeded second and will face seventh-seeded Austin College on Friday, April 25, at 12:30 p.m. (CT). The men, meanwhile, are seeded third at the tournament for the fourth consecutive year and will play No. 6 seed Texas Lutheran on Friday at 9 a.m. (CT). All matches are scheduled at the Waco Regional Tennis Center.

The women's team, ranked 48th in the country, finished the regular season with a 10-7 overall record and enters the tournament with three freshmen, two sophomores and a junior in the six singles spots. Sophomore Kala Komanduri posted an 8-5 overall record and 4-3 mark at the No. 1 position during the regular season, including a four-match winning streak at the top spot.

Freshman Aspen Young had an incredible regular season, putting together a 14-1 singles record, by far the most wins on the team, including a 7-1 mark at No. 3. She enters the SCAC Championships on a five-match winning streak. Fellow freshman Lucia Moravek is second on the team with 10 singles wins, including a 7-1 mark at the No. 5 position.

In doubles, Komanduri and freshman Amelia Karr are 6-6 at the No. 2 position, while junior Lindsay Popeo and freshman Ally Lowe are 7-3 at No. 3.

The Tigers were a perfect 2-0 in league play, blanking Concordia and Southwestern, 7-0. The victory over Southwestern in the regular-season finale snapped a nine-match losing streak to the Pirates dating back to 2016.

"We played as challenging a schedule as there was in Division III this season," head coach Anthony Weber said. "We had long trips on the road, in different conditions, on a variety of courts and competed at a high level. For a young squad, to find this level of success was truly amazing."

The men's team, ranked No. 72 in Division III, enters the tournament with a 5-13 overall record and 1-2 mark in the SCAC. The Tigers defeated Concordia, 5-2, and fell to 29th-ranked Trinity and 58th-ranked Southwestern.

Sophomore Dominik Kaminski and freshman Lenny Lehmitz led the team with seven wins apiece during the regular season. Kaminski won all of his matches at the No. 3 position, while Lehmitz split between No. 5 and 6.

Senior Aiden Little went 8-9 at the No. 2 spot, and has won four of his last five matches entering the tournament.

"While our record may not indicate it, this has been an extremely successful year for the men's team," Weber said. "We showed marked improvement through the season. Our resiliency is truly a mark they've left on the spring."

Each team lost in the semifinal at the SCAC Tournament last season and has advanced to one SCAC final since joining the league in 2007. The men lost to Trinity, 9-0, in 2013, while the women fell to Trinity, 5-1, in 2015.
