Colorado College rising senior Rabbit Barnes earned yet another national honor as he was named to the Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Team by College Sports Communicators.
 
Barnes, a first-team selection, is the second member of CC's men's track & field or cross country programs to receive the national academic award since it began in 1952. James Settles was a second-team selection in 2023 and a first-team pick last year.
 
A native of Los Olivos, Calif., Barnes has a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average through his three years at CC, majoring in neuroscience.
 
After earning his first All-America honor and winning a pair of conference titles, he was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Year for the 2025 season by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
 
Barnes became Colorado College's fifth male track athlete to earn All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter final at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. he finished the race in 3:50.01, just 1.26 seconds behind the champion.
 
At the 2025 SCAC Track and Field Championships, Barnes captured a pair of titles, the 800 and 1500, becoming the first male in league history to win both races at the same SCAC meet twice (won both as a sophomore in 2024). He is the fourth male in SCAC history to win at least three 1,500-meter titles and his time of 1:51.31 in the 800 final was the fastest in SCAC championship meet history.
 
He is the third Colorado College male to earn the SCAC Track Athlete of the Year honor, joining Josh Fry (2021) and Settles (2023 and '24).
 
Barnes helped CC win its sixth straight SCAC cross country team title last fall and garnered all-SCAC honors with a seventh-place finish at the SCAC Championships and finished 32^nd at the West Region meet to earn all-region honors with a personal-best 8K time of 25:09.
 
"Rabbit is the embodiment of a student-athlete," Colorado College track and field head coach Katie Bretscher said. "He sets the example for which we want all of our student-athletes to strive for in the classroom and on the playing field." 
 
Barnes also won the prestigious Elite 19 Award this past year by the SCAC for men's track & field.
