LAST TIME OUT
Colorado College, ranked No. 25 in the latest IWLCA national poll and No. 14 in the latest NPI rankings, went 3-0, including a pair of overtime victories, on the road last week.
Â
Grace Bean scored 43 seconds into overtime to give CC a thrilling, come-from-behind 15-14 victory over 20
th-ranked University of Chicago last Thursday Stagg Field. Bean's goal, her 15
th of the season, capped a furious rally by the Tigers, who rallied from a 10-3 deficit with 6:45 remaining in the second quarter.
Â
Trailing 14-12 in the final minute of regulation, Chicago's Kali Konstantinakos was issued a two-minute penalty with 37 seconds left and
Elsa Greene capitalized on the free position goal to cut the lead to 14-13. CC's Sofia Nicklaus won the all-important draw control, then
Oliv Janerico took a pass from
Charlotte Iler and evened the score at 14-all with just 17 seconds remaining to force overtime. Greene won the draw control to begin overtime and Bean came from behind the net to cleanly beat Chicago goalie Lily Brill and set off a mad rush onto the field by the Tigers.
Â
The Tigers then defeated UW-Stevens Point, 22-1, on Saturday and rallied again to beat UW-River Falls, 13-12, in overtime on Sunday.
Â
Janerico scored with one second remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime and Iler scored a free-position goal 1:39 into the extra frame to give the Tigers the victory at River Falls.
Â
With the Tigers trailing 12-11, Eleanor Thompson-Witt of River Falls was assessed a two-minute yellow card with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Greene had her free-position shot blocked and after a scramble for the ball, Iler sent a centering pass from the right wing to Janerico, who beat the Falcons' goalie Annelise Rommeck from right in front at the buzzer.
Â
The Falcons gained the draw control to begin overtime, but
Sofia Mancino forced a turnover, and after River Falls' Julia Hayek was given a yellow card, Iler buried the free-position shot.
Â
SHARE OF WIAC TITLE AND NO. 1 SEEDÂ
With the overtime win at River Falls, the Tigers secured at least a share of the WIAC regular-season title. With UW-Eau Claire's loss to UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, CC will be the No. 1 seed at next week's WIAC Tournament, which will be played at campus sites. A win over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday secures CC's third consecutive outright WIAC regular-season title.
