Thanks to some spectacular goaltending by
Richard Bachman, Colorado College remains undefeated this young 2008-09 season.
Bachman treated his teammates to a 44-save performance on Friday, preserving a 2-2 tie with the University of Denver at Magness Arena that extended No. 1-ranked CC's unbeaten to streak to seven games.
The Tigers, now 4-0-3, let a two-goal lead slip away after
Brian Connelly's power-play tally at 5:34 of the first period and
Addison DeBoer's blind but successful swipe at a rebound of his own shot at 5:05 of the second seemed to put them in command.
But the Pioneers got stronger as the intense battled wore on, rallying to tie the contest on a goal by Luke Salazar just 28 seconds into the final frame after finally solving Bachman on a red lighter by Rhett Rakhshani just 3:13 after DeBoer scored.
Bachman made 17 of his stops in the third period, when DU threw everything they had at him. It was the second consecutive game that he's finished with a career high in saves. It also was CC's third consecutive tie, all on the road.
Again, the Tigers came close to winning in overtime when a shot by
Andreas Vlassopoulos slid through traffic and hit the post behind Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie, who finished with 27 saves.
