Tigers overcome Major deficit in overtime victory

Colorado College erased an 18-point deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation and went on to post a 67-65 overtime victory at Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon in Jackson, Miss.
 
Becky Luetjen scored a game-high 21 points, nine of which came during CC's pivotal 27-9 run late in the second half. Eliese Hansberry registered her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
 
Emily Wattman-Turner forced the extra session when she drained a three pointer with 56 seconds remaining in the second half.
 
Melanie Auguste put the Tigers ahead for good when she converted on a short jumper with 4:04 to play in the extra period, and then Hansberry gave Colorado College a four-point lead with 1:36 to go.
 
After Crystal Dickerson cut CC's lead to 65-63 with 47 seconds remaining in the game, Luetjen scored what proved to be the game-winning basket 18 seconds later.
 
Wattman-Turner had a season-high 13 points, while Auguste finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
 
Jessica Bowie's layup gave the Majors a 54-37 lead with 9:01 remaining in the second half, but the Tigers ran off 10 consecutive points and pulled to within 54-47 on a jumper by Whitney Spooner with 6:13 to go.
 
Colorado College made just three of 26 field goal attempts during the first half, which allowed Millsaps to build a 34-19 lead after 20 minutes. CC stayed in the game by making 24 of 26 free throws during regulation.  
 
LaReina Adams led MC with 20 points, while Dickerson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Tigers improved to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while the Majors dropped to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in league play. The teams are tied for second place in the SCAC's West Division.
 
CC will complete a run of five consecutive road games with outings at Centre College and DePauw University next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
