Melanie Auguste sank two free throws with less than a second remaining to lift the Tigers past Rhodes College, 64-63, in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.
Becky Atnip gave the Lynx a 63-62 lead when she converted a pair of free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining. The teams exchanged the lead four times during the final minute.
Auguste drove the length of the court with 5.1 seconds left and forced the Lynx into committing a foul.
Rhodes led nearly the entire first half and had a 34-32 advantage after 20 minutes. The Tigers took their first lead at 41-40 with 16:01 remaining in the game.
CC led by as many as 3 points, but Rhodes battled back to take a 57-54 lead on a three-point basket by Kristen Lytle with 3:57 left to play.
Atnip kept the Lynx in the game with her team high 17 points, while LaKeya McGill had 10 points to chip in. Auguste finished with a game high 22 points and had 10 assists, while
Eliese Hansberry added 15 points.
The Lynx shot 42.6 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. The Tigers shot 35 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the line.
The Tigers improved to 11-5 overall and took over second place in the SCAC's West Division with a 5-3 conference record. The Lynx dropped to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the SCAC.
Colorado College will play host to Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday in a game that does not count in the SCAC standings while the Panthers make the transition to Division III. Rhodes will travel to Austin College.
