Shalosky named assistant volleyball coach

Stephanie Shalosky, who spent nine seasons as a player and coach at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, has been named a full-time assistant at Colorado College, head coach Rick Swan announced today.

“We are extremely excited to have Stephanie join our staff as a full-time assistant,” Swan said. “I have followed her career and watched her grow from being a top player into an exceptional coach. It will be great to have Stephanie bring her playing and coaching experience to our program.”

Shalosky was a record-setting setter at UCCS from 1998 through 2001 and later served as an assistant coach with the Mountain Lions (2004-08).

As a senior in 2001, Shalosky ranked third in the nation averaging 13.63 assists per set and was a second-team all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection. A two-time captain, she also received the school's highest athletic honor, the McLaughlin Award, for excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

Shalosky graduated Cum Laude in 2002 with a degree in computer information systems, and after working for the United States Anti-Doping Agency and Lockheed Martin, she returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach.

Shalosky primarily worked with the UCCS setters and middle hitters, and helped the team record its second-best offensive statistics in the program's history, trailing only the marks set during her senior season.

Her other coaching credentials include serving as an assistant coach at Peyton High School in 2003, assisting with the Colorado Juniors Volleyball Program that finished 11th in the nation in 2003, and nine years of experience working at the Mountain Lion volleyball camps.

Shalosky was an all-state setter at Simla High School and helped lead her team to the state 2A championship in 1996 and runner-up finishes in '95 and '97.

“I have known Stephanie since she was a young girl,” Swan said. “She would come to my matches when I played volleyball with her father, Clay Pinyerd. Growing up in Colorado Springs, playing club and college volleyball locally as well as coaching for the last five years at UCCS, Stephanie has developed many contacts in the state that will help us recruit more Colorado players.”

Her duties will include coaching the setters, coordinating video breakdown and assisting with recruiting.
