Zach Steedman nearly pitched a shutout as Colorado College defeated Centre College, 21-1, on Monday afternoon in the first-ever men's lacrosse game between the schools.
Steedman steered aside five shots and didn't allow a goal until Connor Strubb put the Colonels on the scoreboard with just 3:57 remaining in the game.
Up to that point, it was all Tigers.
Moses Taylor had a team-high eight points on three goals and five assists, while Carson Christman paced CC with four goals and added an assist. Steve Rijo and Bart Cerf added three and two goals, respectively, and finished with four points.
Nine Tigers had at least one goal
Christman opened the scoring 5:07 into the game and then CC received the only other marker it would need when the Colonels were charged for an own goal 2:39 later.
Travis Voges recorded the first of his career-high three goals with 3:41 remaining in the first period, and then Jack Kreitler struck for the first of his two tallies 43 seconds later. Colorado College scored twice in less than a minute seven times during the contest.
The Tigers added six goals in the second period to build an 11-0 lead after 30 minutes, and then CC tacked on nine more scores in the third period before emptying the bench.
Buck McKenna won 10 of 11 faceoffs and picked up four ground balls. Will Harris grabbed a game-high eight ground balls, the most this season by a Tiger.
Colorado College launched 41 shots, 39 of which occurred during the first three periods.
The Colonels' Clayton Ambrose turned aside eight of those efforts.
CC improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Centre dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the SCAC.
The Tigers complete their three-game Spring Break trip on Thursday at The College of Wooster.
