Tigers improve to 7-0 on the road

Colorado College improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1998 by cruising to a 22-2 victory over Southwestern University in a neutral-site game at Millsaps College.

Playing their second game in less than 24 hours, the Tigers eclipsed the 20-goal mark for the third time in four games while limiting their opponent to five goals or less for the fifth contest on a row and the sixth time this season.

James Mauk opened the scoring with two of his five markers early in the first period, and CC built a 5-0 lead after Jack Kreitler added a pair of markers late in the frame.

After Carson Christman gave Colorado College a 10-0 lead with back-to-back tallies, Gus Brunger put the Pirates on the board with 3:50 remaining in the first half. The Tigers added five more goals during the final 3:25 lead, including one by Charles Curtis to give CC a 14-goal lead after 20 minutes.

Colorado College changed the scoreboard seven times in the second half, including the first career tally by Caleb Thompson with 9:35 to go in the fourth period, before SU's Jamie Long closed out the scoring with 1:11 remaining in the game.

Mauk and Christman paced the Tiger attack with five goals and an assist. Moses Taylor had a hand in five goals, scoring a pair and a setting up three others, while Kreitler scored three times.

Zach Steedman made seven saves to earn the victory in goal.

CC's Buck McKenna won 15 of 16 faceoffs and grabbed a game-high 11 ground balls. Will Ellis won eight of 12 draws and had 10 ground balls.

Chris O'Quain stopped 20 shots for the Pirates.

The Tigers improved to 4-0 in the SCAC, while Southwestern dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Colorado College plays at home for the first time in 2011 when Oglethorpe University visits Washburn Field on Friday afternoon.
