Box Score Sophomore guard
Ryan Milne scored a season-high 26 points, but it was a pair of free throws by junior forward
Ian Rewoldt with 24 seconds to play that gave Colorado College the cushion it needed to hang on for a nerve-racking 62-57 victory over Centre College on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.
After building 57-44 lead when Milne scored on a runner with 5:12 remaining in the game, the Tigers misfired on their next three shots from the floor and went 1-for-4 from the free-throw line to let the Colonels pull to within a point when Greg Ross scored in the paint with 26 seconds to play.
Rewoldt extended CC's lead to three points, but the victory wasn't secured until Centre missed its final two shots and senior forward
Jeremiah Waters and sophomore guard
Chris Mayo-Smith each added a free throw during the final eight seconds.
Ross, who led all scorers with 27 points, struck for 16 during the second half to fuel the Colonels comeback. But playing from behind nearly the entire game eventually caught up with Centre.
After Ross gave the visitors an early 7-6 lead, the Tigers made six of seven shots from the floor in a little more than eight minutes to build a commanding 27-12 advantage with 7:50 remaining in the first half.
Trailing 30-20 following a 3-pointer by Waters with 3:38 to play, Collin Lopez and Josh Karsner connected from behind the arc to help the Colonel's pull to within four points. Milne, however, sank a pair of free throws with three seconds to go to give Colorado College a 32-26 lead after 20 minutes.
Centre trimmed its deficit to 35-34 when Lopez scored two of his seven points 4:44 into the second half, but Milne ignited an 18-6 run that gave the Tigers a 53-40 lead with 8:50 to play.
Milne made five of 10 shots from behind the arc en route to his sixth 20-point game of the season.
Rewoldt finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, while freshman forward
Chris Lesnansky grabbed a season-high 11 boards and added eight points.
The Tigers made 10 of 23 shots from behind the arc, which accounted for more than half of their made field goals.
CC improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Centre slipped to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Colorado College returns to action on Sunday when it plays host to Sewanee at 2 p.m.
