Deanna Thirkell and
Maddy Bush provided a pair of wins for the Colorado College women's tennis team, but Division II Metro State College of Denver came away with a 7-2 victory on Thursday afternoon.
After falling behind 3-0 in doubles play, Thirkell came back with a strong 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alicia Holm to earn the first win of the day for the Tigers at No. 1 singles. With the win, Thirkell is now 5-1 during her senior year at the No. 1 singles position.
Bush added another victory for CC at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nikki Amos. Bush is a perfect 2-0 this season at the No. 4 singles position.
“Both Deanna and Maddy played great singles matches today,” said head coach Todd Doebler.
Katie Patterson and
Caila Criss also had hard fought matches during singles play, but came up short. Patterson fell at No. 2 singles 7-6, 6-1, while Criss played hard at No. 3 singles during her 6-3, 7-6 loss.
In doubles play, Thirkell and Patterson came up shy against Holm and Nadia Khamis with an 8-4 loss at No. 1 doubles.
Colorado College is now 4-2 on the season and will travel to Orlando, Fla., to take on Hamline University on Sunday in the first of six matches over Spring Break.
