Tigers stumble against Luther

Deanna Thirkell had the lone bright spot for the Colorado College women's tennis team as the Tigers fell to Luther College, 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
 
The Tigers began the day in doubles action where they came away on the short end at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Mary Edman and Thirkell fell to Cami Czech and Katherine Howe, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Katie Patterson and Caila Criss also came up on the wrong side of an 8-4 loss to Cassandra Chalhoub and Lola White-Baer at No 2 doubles.
 
In singles play, Thirkell came from behind during to earn the sole win for CC. The senior dropped the first set, 6-2, but came back in the final sets to win 6-1, 10-4 at the No. 1 singles position. With the victory, Thirkell extended her winning streak to six games and is now 8-1 on the season.  
 
“Although it didn't show up in any doubles victories, we played really well at one and two doubles,” said head coach Todd Doebler. “Deanna did a great job of coming back today to win against a very tough opponent.” 
 
Anna Sweeney had a hard fought match, but fell to Adriana DePaolis 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. Caila Criss also had a tough match at No. 3 singles as she fell to Chalhoub, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Colorado College is now 6-3 on the season and continues play in Orlando, Fla., and will take on Oglethorpe University on Wednesday morning in the fourth of six matches over Spring Break.
