The Colorado College women's tennis team gained a lot of experience over the week, but the Tigers dropped their sixth and final match over Spring Break to Carthage College, 6-3 on Friday morning in Orlando, Fla.
 
“We lost a tough match today, but we played well and fought hard,” said head coach Todd Doebler. “We played a lot of matches in a short period of time and it was great to see us continue to improve.  
 
“This trip is going to help us get better and helped us gain a lot of valuable experience.” 
 
Mary Edman earned her eighth victory of the season when she beat Kristina Naidicz in a tough 6-3, 4-6, -3 win at No. 4 singles. Edman improved to 8-4 on the season in singles play and 4-2 at the No. 4 singles position this year.
 
Maggie Harwood won the final singles point for CC with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Erin Henrickson at No. 5 singles.
 
Maddy Bush and Anna Sweeney finished the week with an 8-4 win over Amanda Bizub and Henrickson at No. 3 doubles to earn the final point for the Tigers on Friday.
 
Deanna Thirkell and Anna Sweeney had a pair of tough matches during singles play with both of their matches going to three sets.
 
Thirkell dropped her first set 6-0, but came back in the second set to tie the match with a 6-3 win. The senior was unable to come up with the victory dropping the final set, 10-8, against Hollis McPeek at No. 1 singles.
 
Sweeney took an early lead during her match with a 6-3 win over Abbi Howell, but dropped the remaining sets, 7-5, 12-10 in a close match at No. 6 singles.
 
Colorado College dropped to 7-5 on the season and returns to Colorado to take on Colorado Mesa University on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Ken Caryl.
