The Colorado College women's tennis team dropped a tough 6-3 decision to Division II Colorado Mesa University on Sunday morning at Ken Caryl Ranch in Denver, Colo.
 
The Tigers earned its only points during singles play.
 
Deanna Thirkell began singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kelleen Sera at the No. 1 singles position. With the win, Thirkell improved to 10-3 on the season at No. 1 singles.
 
Katie Patterson added another win for CC at No. 2 singles, beating Kaylee Davis 6-3, 7-5.
 
Maggie Harwood earned the final victory for the Tigers in a come-from-behind win over Rachel McLaughlin.  Harwood dropped her first set 6-2, but came back in the remaining sets to win 6-4, 10-3.
 
“Deanna and Katie really played well and defeated good opponents,” said head coach Todd Doebler. “Maggie did an outstanding job coming back and playing smart tennis.”
 
Mary Edman came up shy at No. 5 singles in a tough three-set match. After dropping the first set 6-1, Edman came back to tie the second set with a 6-4 win. The freshman wasn't able to earn the win in the final set, falling 10-4 to Krystin Wykert.
 
“Mary battled out there,” said Doebler, “but she wasn't able to put her girl away.”
 
In doubles play, Patterson and Caila Criss fell short in an 8-6 loss to Kaylee Davis and Shannen McNamara at No. 2 doubles. Thirkell and Edman also had a tough match at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-5 to Kaitlin Sera and Kelleen Sera.
 
Colorado College dropped to 7-6 on the season and competes against Hope International University in its first and only home match this season at Garden of the Gods Club on Monday at 3 p.m.
