Tough loss for shorthanded CC

Big Cats drop dual decision at UC Santa Cruz with depleted roster

Lacking strength in numbers, Colorado College couldn't quite keep up on Friday.

CC depleted men's roster went up against a UC Santa Cruz team that not only is strong in depth but solid in talent as well, and dropped a 156-115 dual decision to kick off its first road trip of the 2013-14 season.

The loss was not without highlights for the Tigers, as junior Chris Garrity turned in another standout performance with impressive victories in 100- (56:08) and 200-yard (2:09.27) backstroke events. Garrity also was solid in the sprint freestyle race, with a 22.39-second split, while junior diver Austin Howlett made his NCAA qualifying standards on both the 1- (318.05 points) and 3-meter (326.70) boards.

Senior Kaleb Roush emerged with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:10.65, while sophomore Colin Chupik prevailed in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.44) and was second in the 100 fly (56.53).

The Big Cats will meet the Banana Slugs again on Saturday, under a different and perhaps more conducive event format, at the Mills College Invitational in Oakland, Calif.
