Box Score For the second year in a row,
Chase Murphy made sure the Locker-Stabler Cup remained the property of Colorado College.
Murphy recorded a career high 18 saves on Friday night as the Tigers defeated Whittier College, 9-3, under the lights at Memorial Stadium.
Not only did CC improve to 9-3 on the season, it extended its winning streak versus the Poets to six games, including all five since the cup was instituted in 2011.
Junior defender
Tim Jenkins recorded a career high seven caused turnovers and helped Colorado College thwart six of Whittier's seven extra-man opportunities.
The contest marked the sixth time this season the Tigers held an opponent to five goals or less.
First-year attackman
Sam Dardani fueled the CC offense with a season-high four tallies, while senior midfielder
Gray Ritger scored once and added a career-best three assists.
Sophomore attacker
Austin Davie put Colorado College on the board just 39 seconds into the game when he picked up the rebound of a shot by his older brother, senior midfielder
Dylan Davie, and fired a shot past freshman goalkeeper Alex Cramer.
A little less than three minutes later,
Austin Davie set up the first of Dardani's markers, and then junior midfielder
Eric Neumeyer gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead with 9:22 to play in the first quarter.
After
Dylan Davie struck for what proved to be the game-winning goal 3:56 into the second quarter, junior attacker Maxwell Jones struck for the first of his two goals while the Poets were playing with an extra man.
Dardani's second tally gave CC a 5-1 lead with 4:12 remaining in the second quarter, but Whittier answered with a marker from junior midfielder Nick Hernandez to pull to within three after 30 minutes.
The count remained 5-2 until late in the third quarter when Dardani and Neumeyer scored in a span of 44 seconds on consecutive possessions.
Whittier trimmed its deficit to 7-3 when Jones notched his second goal with 8:25 to play, but Colorado College sealed the victory with tallies by Ritger and Dardani during the final three minutes.
The Poets won 11 of 16 face-offs and finished with a 34-29 edge in total shots. CC recorded a 21-15 advantage in ground balls.
Cramer made 12 saves for Whittier, which slipped to 4-5.
The teams will play again on Friday, April 24, at Washburn Field.
Colorado College wraps up its two-game road trip on Sunday when the Tigers face off with Carthage College at 1 p.m. PT.
