Box Score The University of Nevada took advantage of its one and only scoring opportunity to escape Washburn Field with a 1-0 victory over the Colorado College women's soccer team on Friday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Maria Sanchez scored from the penalty spot 30 seconds into the second half and the Wolf Pack concentrated on defense the rest of the way to claim the victory.
The Tigers were in complete control during the first half when they launched eight of their 10 shots, but were unable to get a ball past Nevada senior goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos.
Sophomore forward
Clara Richter hit the left post with a shot from the edge of the box 17:06 into the game, and then Quintos made a diving stop on a crossing shot from freshman midfielder
Sarah Lyons in the 20th minute.
Quintos's best save occurred late in the first half when she dove to her right to stop a blast from freshman forward
Catie McDonald.
The momentum turned during the first minute of the second half after Sanchez was taken down in the box just outside the right post.
With the Wolf Pack sagging back, CC had a difficult time generating quality scoring chances.
Freshman defender
Aleesa Muir and sophomore midfielder
Kelli Sullivan were the only Tigers to put shots on target on the final 45 minutes.
Colorado College finished with a 10-7 advantage in total shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Junior
Louisa Mackenzie made a pair of saves for the Tigers, who slipped to 7-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the Mountain West.
Quintos stopped eight shots for Nevada, which improved to 5-9-0 overall and 2-5-0 in conference play.
CC plays host to UNLV at noon Sunday on Stewart Field. Â Â Â
