Box Score Colorado College struck for eight consecutive goals during a span of a little more than 25 minutes and pulled away for a 14-8 victory over Berry College on Friday afternoon at Valhalla Stadium.
Junior attackman
Austin Davie scored a team-high four goals for the Tigers, who also got eight tallies and a pair of assists from four of its first-year players.
Midfielders
Tyler Borko and
Drew Wiseman each recorded a pair of goals and an assist, while both attackman Chris Bower and midfielder
Aaron Maslow found the net twice.
Borko's first tally with 1:44 remaining in the first half snapped a 5-5 tie and put CC ahead to stay, and his second goal with 9:39 remaining in the third quarter gave the Tigers a 9-5 cushion and proved to be the game winner.
Colorado College extended its lead to 12-5 on goals from Bower, Maslow and senior midfielder
Jacob Rockwell.
The Vikings utilized a pair of goals from Bailey Martin and another from Christian Akers to trim their deficit to four, but CC closed out the scoring with goals by Maslow and senior attackman
Robert Prior during the final 1:27.
Berry took a 2-0 lead just 3:33 into the contest on markers by Justin Westbrook and Akers, but the Tigers rallied on goals by Bower, Wiseman and Davie to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.
After a man-up strike by Jake Emche and Akers' second tally gave the Vikings their final lead at 4-3, back-to-back goals by Davie put Colorado College up by one with 6:30 remaining in the second quarter.
Akers leveled the score with 2:52 to play before halftime, but that was the last time Berry would find the net until late in the fourth quarter.
CC compiled a 50-26 advantage in total shots and a 36-19 margin in ground balls.
Sophomore
Jackson Kaplan won 15 of 21 faceoffs and led the Tigers with eight ground balls.
Senior goaltender
Chase Murphy stopped 12 shots during 56 minutes between the pipes. Sophomore
Brice Tucker played the final four minutes.
Nick Voso steered aside 16 shots during 45 minutes in goal. Zach McConell made three saves during the final 15 minutes.
Colorado College visits Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday at noon CT.
