Davie Powers CC Past Babson

Box Score Junior attackman Austin Davie struck for a career-high six goals, including the go-ahead score 1:04 into the fourth quarter, to power Colorado College to a 16-13 victory over Babson College on Saturday morning.

Davie's fifth tally snapped an 11-11 tie and sparked a 5-1 run that sealed the victory for CC, which improved to 6-3.

"We've had our fair share of adversity the last few weeks," head coach Sean Woods said. "This team has suffered more injuries than any other team I've been a part of. We've have taken a "next guy up" approach and after a few losses, we've really galvanized and gelled as a team.

"We managed to grind out a hard fought, tough win against a tough Babson team. Our guys played tough today.  That needs to continue."

Freshman midfielder Tyler Borko, who finished with four goals and three assists for a season-high seven points, gave the Tigers a two-goal lead with a little more than 10 minutes remaining.

After senior midfielder Brendan Coan cut the Beaver deficit in half with 8:45 to play, Colorado College freshman midfielder Aaron Maslow notched what proved to be the game winner 1:34 later off a feed from freshman midfielder Tom Haller.

Sophomore attackman Robert Stern and Davie added insurance goals 29 seconds apart to give the Tigers their largest lead of the contest with just 1:25 left. Sophomore midfielder Axel Brown scored Babson's final goal with 51 seconds to go.

CC received another outstanding performance from senior goaltender Chase Murphy, who made seven of his 19 saves during the first quarter when the Beavers launched 15 of their 51 shots.

After Davie put the Tigers on the board 2:44 into the game, Babson utilized tallies by senior attackman Spencer Low and junior attackman Connor Flaherty to take the first of their three leads.

Borko ignited a four-goal spurt that gave Colorado College a 5-2 cushion, but the Beavers answered with three in a row to force one of the game's eight ties.

Babson scored twice during the final minute of the second quarter to take a 7-6 lead with 25 seconds to go, but on the ensuing faceoff, Borko grabbed the ground ball and then knotted the score just 13 seconds later.

After freshman attacker Drew Wiseman put CC ahead 2:46 into the second half, goals by Coan and sophomore attackman Austin Fabel gave the Beavers their final lead at 9-8.

The Tigers countered with tallies by Wiseman, Borko and Stern to grab an 11-9 lead, but Babson scored twice during the final four minutes to level the score after 45 minutes.

The Beavers finished with a 51-48 edge in total shots, while Colorado College recorded a 38-30 advantage in ground balls. CC won 21 off 33 faceoffs.

Senior Corey Boeschenstein set a career high with three caused turnovers for the Tiger defense. Freshman Jack Ammons grabbed three ground balls and a pair of turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Parker Woo won 21 of 32 face-offs and led all players with 14 ground balls.

Fabel led the Babson with three goals and three assists. Coan finished with three markers, while senior midfielder Scott Doten added two goals and an assist.

Sophomore goaltender Jordan Shapiro made nine saves for the Beavers, who slipped to 1-4.

Colorado College plays host to Colorado Mesa University on Friday night at Washburn Field.
